“You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” -Robin Williams
You wake up in the middle of the night. There’s something on your mind and you just can’t shake it. You try to go back to sleep but for some odd reason, you’re not tired anymore. It’s 3 am and you can’t understand why.
What you’re experiencing is what I call, “The Spark of Madness”.
What is The Spark of Madness?
It’s an idea that pops into your head when you’re least expecting it. It could come to you when you’re sleeping, at work, or spending time with family and friends.
The most important part is once it hits you, you must act on it or risk losing it.
How to Act Immediately
Many of us have experienced these sparks, thought nothing of it, and continued on with our day. The problem is, when the time comes to recall the idea and put it into action we can’t remember.
From this point on, whenever you experience this spark you must do as Francis Bacon said, “Write down the thoughts of the moment. Those that come unsought for are commonly the most valuable.”
There are only so many ideas that come our way in a given year. How do we know which ideas are worth pursuing if we don’t write them down?
Writing down ideas is just as valuable as writing down goals. In my opinion, even more so. Because, setting a goal can often times change your life, acting on an idea has the potential to change the world.
The Risk of Not Acting
I truly believe every person on Earth has a purpose. We all play a role that serves the universe and ourselves. For some, that role may be smaller than others but its impact is significant nonetheless.
The foundation of our success in fulfilling our purpose comes down to the ideas we come up with and act upon. Have you ever thought about how far back you could be pushing your success by not taking advantage of your ideas?
Your true calling is out there and it’s waiting to be ignited by a random spark of madness that has the potential to change worlds, but only if you choose to act on it.
Listen to your heart, your intuition, and pay attention to that spark of madness. You don’t quite know when it will hit. But when it does, ACT!
